A Solo and Ensemble Adjudicated Event!

This year seventeen talented high school students spent five Wednesday afternoons “coaching” the RJHS ensembles. Dorinda Meeks, Megan McMillan, Katie Starling, Becky Boster, Amanda Stockwell, Zulema Ferrer, Affiong Ibokette, Nykie Charles, Melanie Dippel, Brook Wilson, Judy Hsieh, Dana Stapleton, Erica Frederick, Betsy Gillenwater, Amy Irish, Nicole DeNoncour and Melissa Hickey worked with their ensembles each week for 50 minutes. The high school students were chosen because of their musical ability, experience playing ensembles, maturity, reliability and the ability to relate in a positive way to younger musicians. The high school students worked with the 7th and 8th grade students on counting, playing in tune, style, confidence and expectations for the adjudicated event. It’s a win-win situation for both age levels. The high school students learned how to analyze and teach music. The Junior High students now have a “buddy” who is a high school student, a positive role model, and a person who can answer questions about music. Thank you to all students involved in this endeavor!
