HIGH
SCHOOL GOES TO SEE YOYO MA
On
January 24 the Reynoldsburg High School Orchestra students had a unique
opportunity. The evening started with dinner at the Japanese Steak House and
then a concert by world famous cellist YoYo Ma. Mr. Ma and Friends presented
“The Silk Road,” a multi-cultural program. Ma founded the Silk Road Project
in 1998 to “encourage musical collaborations
along the Silk Road, and to
re-evaluate the place of Western classical traditions in the context of world
music.” The various instruments
used in the concert including the horse head fiddle, pipa, and prepared piano
fascinated the RHS students and chaperones. The “long-song” singer held the
audience in awe. The evening was a truly memorable musical night.
The
evening was possible because of the help of many people. BASS purchased the
tickets for the concert. The students used their camp/trip credits for dinner.
Parent chaperones volunteered their time. Bus transportation was furnished the
by Reynoldsburg City Schools transportation department. Thank you to Mrs.
Marilyn Key, transportation supervisor and Mrs. Fran Charles for their help in
scheduling the drivers. Also, thank
you to Esther Ford and Terri Kinder, our drivers for the evening. Life is so
much easier when we all work together for the benefit of the students! Thank
you.
